Poole Hospital is looking to improve the experiences of older patients with cancerRead Now![]() Dr Nicola Mellor, one of the elderly care registrars at Poole Hospital, is in the middle of a year long project looking to improve the experiences of older patients with cancer. There is widespread recognition that older patients may have more complex needs and other health problems and social factors may impact on their access and response to treatment. She is working to identify older patients who would benefit from having a geriatric/medical review alongside their oncology treatment and determining the impact of this review on their treatment. As part of this, she is keen to engage with patients to find out what matters to them. De Mellor is aiming to look at people over the age of 70 years but could stretch down to 65. If they are willing to meet, she would be happy to travel to them if they're not based locally or can find somewhere to meet at the hospital. She anticipates using a semi structured interview to learn about their experiences and it may take 30-60 minutes of their time. Her contact details are - email nicolamellor@doctors.org.uk or by mobile on 07920097662.
